Protiviti has released findings from a new global survey of Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) and internal audit leaders. The survey found that 76 percent of internal audit groups are undertaking some form of innovation or digital transformation efforts, yet only 31 percent actually have a roadmap in place, signaling that organizations are positioning themselves to thrive in the future, but a lot more progress needs to be made.
Additional findings include:
- 41 percent of internal audit groups are moderately or far behind their competitors’ internal audit transformation activities.
- The top 10 audit plan priorities for 2019 – including enterprise risk management, cybersecurity, vendor risk management, fraud risk management, COSO internal control, agile risk and compliance, lease accounting, cloud computing and revenue recognition.
- The types of next-generation internal audit technologies deployed most frequently – including advanced analytics (23 percent), process mining (20 percent), RPA (19 percent) and AI/machine learning (17 percent).
The experts at Protiviti suggest that now is the time to commit to developing a next-generation internal audit function.
