Businesses Continue to Embrace AI for Hiring, Customer Service & Cybersecurity

About six months from the splashy launch of Open AI’s ChatGPT and despite continued global regulatory concerns about AI’s proliferation, new research indicates that corporations are using the technology across their operations and are likely to keep expanding deployment of AI.

A Forbes Advisor survey found that customer service is the most popular current usage for AI, with 56% of surveyed companies saying that’s one of the ways they use it, followed by cybersecurity/fraud management (51%). And a survey by the Conference Board showed that 65% of HR leaders expect AI to have a positive impact in their field over the next couple of years.

Forbes Advisor’s research found business owners extremely optimistic about the impact of AI, especially ChatGPT, which 97% of respondents said would have a positive effect on their operations. That’s not to say their optimism isn’t balanced by some trepidation. Indeed, about one-third of leaders said they were worried about workforce reduction caused by AI, and a similar share said they fear proliferation of misinformation. And 43% said they worry their teams will become too reliant on AI.

While businesses tend to view AI positively, leaders will have to contend with laws and regulations that vary geographically, as several countries, including Italy, China and Russia, have banned ChatGPT. Meanwhile, New York City’s much-talked-about rule regarding AI in hiring is expected to go into effect in July 2023.
