2024 Political Violence Risk Report
What’s in this report from Allianz Commercial:
This year’s unprecedented “super-cycle” of elections — almost half the world’s population will go to the polls — is raising security concerns in many countries, from the U.S. to Europe, Africa and South America, according to a new report from Allianz Commercial.
“So many elections in one year raise concerns about the fueling of polarization, with tensions potentially playing out in heightened civil unrest,” said Srdjan Todorovic, head of political violence and hostile environment solutions at Allianz Commercial. “Polarization and unrest within societies are fueled by fear. They undermine trust in institutions and challenge people’s sense of a common purpose built on shared values. We also expect to see increased unrest around environmental issues in future, not only from activists, but from those who are pushing back against government climate mitigation policies.”
Areas covered in the analysis include:
- The November presidential election in the U.S.
- June elections for the European Parliament
- Environmental activism and terrorism
- Political violence and the impact on business
- Trends and risk drivers to watch
