CES helps create practical strategies for mitigating legal compliance, ethics and reputational risk and integrating those considerations into business operations and culture. Debbie also advises general counsel and compliance & ethics officers on leading high-performing teams and driving program effectiveness.

Prior to founding CES in 2004, Debbie spent more than 15 years developing and implementing compliance programs for organizations ranging from small companies to some of the largest multinationals. She has spent over 10 years in-house at AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Avaya, BP and Avon Products, with responsibilities ranging from environmental and safety management systems to global compliance and ethics programs addressing a wide range of legal and ethical issues. She also advised other multinational companies on compliance and ethics program implementation while serving as vice president and general counsel of Integrity Interactive and as a senior knowledge leader with LRN.

Earlier in her career, Debbie practiced environmental law with Bryan Cave in Washington, DC, and with Riker Danzig in New Jersey. Previously, she supervised construction for Exxon Company, USA.

Debbie earned her B.S.E. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Duke University, and she received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Debbie has written and lectured extensively on compliance and ethics, risk management, culture and leadership issues. She is a member of the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics, the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Association of Professional Women and the American Bar Association. She is a past Chair of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Environmental Law Committee and past Assistant Chair of ACC-Europe’s Compliance & Ethics Committee. She served on the Alumni Council of the University of Virginia School of Law and is currently a member of its Alumni Association Advisory Committee.

Debbie serves on the Board of Trustees of the Brookside Community Church and sings in its choir.
