About the Authors
Lisa Fine started her career at an international law firm, where she was a litigator and also led the pro bono program at the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. After leaving that role, Lisa worked in public interest law and advocated on behalf of persons with disabilities. In retrospect, these two roles set Lisa on the path to ethics and compliance, as both helped her connect with those who were striving to do the right thing.
Today, Lisa is Director of Compliance at a leading education company, where she serves in the global compliance office and strives to promote an ethical culture internally, including leading anti-bribery and anti-corruption compliance and training, investigations, risk assessments, and third-party due diligence. Prior to this role, Lisa was the Director of Global Compliance at the world’s leading airline catering provider.
Lisa is thrilled to co-host the Great Women in Compliance Podcast with Mary and also really enjoys travel adventures and trying new restaurants, sometimes with Mary! Lisa lives in Washington, D.C., with her Havapoo puppy, Rocky, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exercising (especially boxing), and visiting the many museums in D.C.
Mary Shirley calls New Zealand home and started her career working there for government regulators in the areas of data privacy and antitrust. Since then, she has become a global citizen and has been based in Singapore (twice), Hong Kong, Dubai, and Boston, assisting global companies to create world-class compliance programs.
Through these international opportunities, Mary caught the travel bug, which she caters to as often as possible—in between creating podcasts with Lisa Fine for the Great Women in Compliance Podcast and her day job as Head of Culture of Integrity and Compliance Education at a multinational health care company. In her current role, Mary splits her time between the company’s legal and compliance departments, leading global compliance training and communications initiatives, promoting and measuring a culture of integrity, and facilitating workstreams related to an FCPA monitorship.
Mary spends her time thinking about topics for compliance articles, trying new restaurants with friends (molecular gastronomy? Yes, please!), hosting networking meet-ups in Boston, and wondering which continent she should live on next.
