Job Description
Tufts Medical Center is seeking a new Senior Risk Manager/Assistant General Counsel. Under the general direction of the Director, Risk Management, the Senior Risk Manager/Assistant General Counsel is responsible for oversight of claims investigation, claims management, and loss control activities, as well as corporate risk management issues. The incumbent will manage the analytical and technical functions of the department, prepare information for the defense of claims and lawsuits, and develop and conduct continuing education programs to promote best practices in loss prevention. Serves as liaison with outside counsel and regulatory agencies.
Plan, develop and maintain the risk management program of loss prevention and claims control according to Federal, state and local requirements for a self-insured healthcare institution.
Facilitate implementation and compliance with JCAHO recommendations of all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Develop/ maintain a computerized system for purposes of risk identification, loss control, claims management and risk financing.
Review incident reports and assure follow-up of all significant incidents. Receive telephone reports of untoward incidents and conduct preliminary investigations.
Assist with and participate in sentinel event reporting, root cause analysis and/or failure mode & effects analysis.
Maintain relationships with external oversight agencies including, but not limited to, JCAHO, Board of Registration in Medicine, Department of Public Health and submit appropriate reports and corrective action plans to these oversight agencies as required.
Adhere to the standards of Tufts Medical Center’s Compliance and HIPPA Programs.
Desired Skills & Experience
JD required and licensed clinical discipline highly desirable.
Minimum of 5 – 7 years healthcare risk management experience, preferably with a self-insured entity.
