Stephen Martin is General Counsel and Vice President – Strategy for Corpedia, Inc., a leading ethics, compliance and risk assessment consulting company located in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mr. Martin oversees Corpedia’s legal and compliance matters and is responsible for business strategy, including consulting with Corpedia clients. Mr. Martin leads Corpedia’s involvement in the Ethisphere Council, an exclusive executive group of corporate leaders and practitioners committed to ethics and compliance in business.
Mr. Martin has a long history of handling ethics and compliance issues as in-house counsel to several major corporations. Before joining Corpedia, Mr. Martin served as Vice President – Law (Litigation and Compliance) for Adelphia Communications Corporation in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Mr. Martin was part of the new senior leadership team brought in to help clean up Adelphia on the heels of the company’s corporate scandal. His responsibilities at Adelphia included managing the company’s litigation, providing legal advice to the company regarding risk management matters and handling corporate compliance/ethics issues, including the implementation and maintenance of Adelphia’s compliance program.
Prior to joining Adelphia, Mr. Martin worked at Qwest Communications Corporation in Denver, Colorado as the company’s Investigative Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer handling internal investigations, corporate compliance and privacy matters. Before Qwest, Mr. Martin was a Senior Litigation Associate at Steptoe & Johnson LLP in Phoenix, Arizona. Prior to Steptoe, Mr. Martin was employed by MCI WorldCom as an Associate Litigation Counsel responsible for handling governmental enforcement actions, investigations and corporate compliance. Mr. Martin also served as a federal prosecutor with the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. and as an Assistant Attorney General with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Mr. Martin received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Denver, a Juris Doctorate degree from Creighton University, a Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University and a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Denver. Mr. Martin is currently a Clinical Professor in the Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver, a department ranked the top three in the world by the Wall Street Journal for teaching ethics.
