James Bone’s career has spanned diverse industries with over twenty nine years of management, financial services and regulatory compliance experience.
James has worked for Frito-Lay, Inc., Abbott Laboratories, Inc. Stuart-James Investment Bankers, Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner Smith, Inc., Fidelity Investments and most recently founded Global Compliance Associates, LLC.
James is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and contributing writer for Compliance Week, Corporate Compliance Insights, and serves as faculty presenter and consultant for Gerson Lehrman Group and ComplianceOnline covering topics ranging from Operational Risk Management, Governance, Risk and Compliance, to Systemic Risk Management.
During his sixteen year tenure with Fidelity Investments, as senior vice president for operational risk and compliance James was credited with establishing the first risk management and compliance departments for Fidelity Investments Institutional Services, Inc., Fidelity Management and Research Company’s Enterprise Risk Services, Fidelity Pricing & Cash Management Services, Inc. and managed groups in Canada, North America, Latin America, India and regional sites in Boston, Texas, and New Hampshire.
James oversaw approximately $2 trillion in assets under administration and served on the Executive management team responsible for $650 million IT, Operations, and Vendor assets. James responsibilities included Investment Operations for 200+ retail funds, hedge funds, Institutional funds, and Sub-Advisors.
James founded Global Compliance Associates, LLC after more than 20 years in financial services to provide advanced compliance and operational risk approaches to firms seeking to enhance or build a compliance framework beyond the current “COSO” risk model. James has successfully developed analytical approaches that quantify operational risk, audit, and compliance events to proactively model key controls and processes. Global Compliance Associates, LLC also works with third-party vendors to provide compliance, audit, and risk talent to address targeted or long-term internal control projects.
James’s philanthropic activities have been equally diverse. As a trustee of Drury University, James serves on the Investment Committee, Finance Committee and is Chair of the Athletic Committee on the Board of Trustees. In 1995, James joined the Board of the Aloha Foundation, a non-profit summer camp for young men and women in Fairlee, Vermont. In 1997, James became a trustee on the board of William M. Davies Technical High School in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Since 1999, James has help raise funds for UMass Boston’s Athletic program. In September of 2009, James was recently elected President of the Board of the National Association of Securities Professionals – Boston Chapter – a national non-profit which promotes opportunities for people of color in financial services.
James is currently attending Harvard University Graduate School for a Master of Arts in Management with an emphasis in accounting. Having graduated from the Boston University Graduate School of Education, James received his M.Ed. in Management and Organizational Design in 1997 and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Drury University in 1980.
