Elizabeth O’Keeffe became Senior Counsel to the consulting division at PAREXEL International on September 12, 2008. PAREXEL International is a leading global bio/pharmaceutical services organization that helps clients expedite time-to-market through our development and launch services.
Prior to her work with PAREXEL, from September 2005 through September 2008, Elizabeth O’Keeffe was responsible for medical director agreements for all facilities in the Midwestern region of the United States and Puerto Rico of the leading renal dialysis provider in the world, Fresenius Medical Care of North America. Her responsibilities includes Laboratory and Pharmacy Services, joint ventures and acquisitions, clinical research, perfusion and open heart services, HIPAA, fraud and abuse, and general corporate health care law, risk management, patient behavioral issues.
Before coming home to Massachusetts, Elizabeth O’Keeffe joined North Carolina Baptist Hospital’s management team in October 2000 as the Vice President of the Department of Legal Affairs. North Carolina Baptist Hospital is part of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, an Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Ms. O’Keeffe oversaw the establishment of the Department of Legal Affairs for the 800-plus nationally regarded Level 1 Trauma Center that provides a full array of quaternary and tertiary care services. Ms. O’Keeffe was General Counsel for the hospital and its subsidiaries, including Brenner’s Children’s Hospital, a PPO, an HMO, a primary care network, home health and community health system, a laboratory, and a rural hospital network. Expertise includes intellectual property matters, HIPAA, contracts, corporate compliance, corporate law, risk management, employment law, managed care, tax-exempt bond financing, and general health care law (fraud and abuse, Stark II, EMTALA).
Elizabeth O’Keeffe previously was employed as a Vice President of the Department of Legal Affairs at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital (d/b/a NorthEast Medical Center) a 420-bed hospital affiliated with Duke University, in Concord, N.C. Ms. O’Keeffe is a member of the Massachusetts, Connecticut, and North Carolina Bars, and was an honors graduate (Magna Cum Laude) of Case Western Reserve University School of Law where she concentrated her studies in health care law. She is active in her professional community as a member of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section and the Boston Bar Association’s Health Law Section.
