Position Summary
To assist the SVP & Chief Compliance Officer in establishing and maintaining an effective, best practices NBA Compliance Program. Contributes to the prevention and detection of violations of law and other misconduct and the promotion of ethical practices on a global scale.
Major Responsibilities
Risk Assessment and Policy Development:
- Provides assistance in conducting company-wide risk assessment.
- Provides support in reviewing existing and developing new global compliance policies and programs based on input from operating departments, compliance experts, industry best practices and local laws.
- Updates and maintains company policies such as the Legal Compliance Policy & Code of Conduct.
- Supports the development of metrics for measuring and improving effectiveness of the NBA Compliance Program and for benchmarking against programs at other companies.
NBA Compliance Program Communications and Training:
- Assists in the development and maintenance of an effective global communication plan that publicizes and promotes the importance of, and adherence to, the NBA Compliance Program.
- Assists the SVP & Chief Compliance Officer in conducting and developing training programs for staff, teams and players, including the League’s anti-gambling efforts.
Compliance Advocacy, Consultation and Investigation:
- Act as an advocate and champion of the compliance program among managers and employees and provides advice on compliance and ethics matters.
- May assist the SVP & Chief Compliance Officer in investigating any acts of misconduct and/or violations of compliance programs or policies.
- Works closely with internal and outside counsel to obtain advice in implementing programs and revising as needed based on current trends and emerging risks.
- In coordination with other departments such as Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Security and Information Technologies assists in the development and communication of pandemic planning, inclusive of business continuity planning.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of international business practices.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with shifting demands and priorities.
- Strong writing, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all level both inside and outside the organization.
- Strong training and presentation skills.
- Experience with corporate regulatory, compliance and ethics matters strongly preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally on a limited basis as required by business needs.
Experience Needed:
- 7-10 years of relevant experience working in Corporate Compliance and/or Law preferred.
Educational Background Required:
- BA or BS degree required.
- J.D. degree preferred.
